Disney+, Hulu, Max: the parent’s setup guide
Three big streaming services, three similar but separate profile systems. One guide.
Disney+ (Kids profile + parental controls)
- Create a Kids profile for your kid in Disney+ account settings.
- Set a content rating (G, PG, PG-13, TV-14, etc.).
- Enable “Restrict Profile Creation with PIN” so your kid can’t exit Kids profile.
- Turn off autoplay for younger kids.
Disney+ Kids profile is one of the cleaner setups on the market — once configured, kids stay in the kid UI.
Hulu (Kids mode + maturity rating)
- Hulu account › Manage Profiles › create Kids profile.
- Set a Profile PIN to prevent switching profiles.
- Note: Hulu Kids content is more limited than Disney+ Kids; your kid may push back. Stay the course.
- On the bundled adult profile, set a PIN too.
Max (HBO Max)
- Max account › Profile › select or create a kid profile.
- Set an age (5-11 or 12-17).
- Enable “Ask for PIN” to exit the kid profile.
- Note: HBO original content with TV-MA is everywhere on Max. The kid profile reliably hides it, but make sure the kid is actually in their profile.
General streaming-profile hygiene
- Always PIN-protect adult profiles. Kids switch profiles; PINs stop them.
- Review the watch history on each service monthly.
- If you see a jump from Kids content to TV-MA, your kid switched profiles. Reset the PIN.
- Autoplay is the enemy of intentional viewing. Disable it.
