Amazon Fire TV: the parent’s setup guide
Amazon Kids on Fire TV + PIN everything, plus what Fire TV can’t filter.
Fire TV is two separate jobs. Amazon Kids and the device PIN cover Amazon’s own content and purchases, and they are worth setting properly. Netflix, Disney+ and every other app on the box keep their own profiles and PINs, and nothing you set in Fire TV’s parental controls reaches inside them — so budget time for both, not one.
Amazon Kids profile on Fire TV
Fire TV inherits Amazon Kids if you have it set up for your Amazon account — the same system used for Fire Kids tablets.
Setup
- Settings › Preferences › Parental Controls — turn on and set a PIN.
- Choose what requires PIN: Amazon video purchases, launching Prime Video titles, Amazon Photos, app installs.
- Add an Amazon Kids profile: Settings › My Account › Amazon Kids.
- Set each kid’s age; Amazon Kids auto-filters content by age.
- Subscribe to Amazon Kids+ for a bigger curated catalog.
Viewing restrictions
- Set “Viewing Restrictions” under Parental Controls to block titles by maturity rating.
- Set Prime Video’s own Viewing Restrictions on the web as well, but do not treat that as covering this device. Amazon states that Fire TV devices “have their own parental controls settings to restrict access to content and purchasing, and you need to manage these settings directly on the device”.
Alexa on Fire TV remote
The remote has Alexa. If voice search surfaces adult content, restrict Alexa on that account (see our Alexa guide). Voice search runs outside the Kids profile filters, which is why it reaches things the interface will not show.
Third-party streaming apps
Fire TV’s Parental Controls cover Amazon content only. Netflix, Disney+, Hulu — each has its own profile and PIN. See our streaming guides.
What was checked, and when. Verified 2026-09-08 that Prime Video settings do not reach Fire TV. The remote microphone control was not confirmed.

How do I lock down a Fire TV?
Settings › Preferences › Parental Controls, turn them on and set a PIN. Then choose what requires that PIN: Amazon video purchases, launching Prime Video titles, Amazon Photos and app installs. Add an Amazon Kids profile under Settings › My Account and set each child’s age.
Does Fire TV filter Netflix and Disney+?
No. Fire TV’s parental controls cover Amazon content only. Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu each carry their own profile and PIN systems that need configuring separately — the Fire TV PIN does nothing inside them.
The Alexa button on the remote surfaces adult content. What can I do?
Restrict Alexa on that account. Voice search runs outside the Kids profile filters, which is why it surfaces things the interface would not. There is no documented way to switch off the remote’s microphone button in software, so the account-level Alexa settings are the control that actually exists.
How do I block titles by rating?
Set Viewing Restrictions under Parental Controls to block by maturity rating. Configuring Viewing Restrictions per profile in Prime Video’s web settings too is worthwhile, because those sync down to the Fire TV.
