What app safety settings have in common

Two things are true of nearly every app below. The controls live in your child’s account rather than yours, so most of them need your child to accept a link from their own device before anything you set takes effect.

And the settings worth your time are the same three every time: who can message them, who can find them, and what disappears. Screen-time limits and content ratings are the controls each app puts in front of you; those three are the ones that change who can reach your child.

When parental controls change

App privacy settings change quietly, usually in the app's favour. Roughly monthly we send new guides, changes to controls like these, and scams worth knowing about.
