Smart TV & streaming: the parent setup
Kid profiles, platform PINs, and the “which profile did they log into” problem.
Streaming profiles
- Netflix Kids profile — filters to age 7 or 12 content; blocks mature.
- Disney+ Kids profile — drops anything above a chosen rating.
- Hulu Kids profile — fairly strict by default.
- Amazon Prime Video PIN — requires PIN for restricted-rated content.
- Apple TV Screen Time — use a child Apple ID profile.
- YouTube on TV — use YouTube Kids app or Supervised YouTube account.
Platform PINs
- Roku — Settings › Parental controls › PIN for channel add / purchases / mature content.
- Fire TV — Settings › Preferences › Parental Controls. Inherits Amazon Kids settings from the family account.
- Apple TV — Settings › General › Restrictions.
- Google TV / Chromecast — Create a kid profile; set watch history + recommendation filters.
What to check monthly
- Which profile are kids logging into (vs an adult profile)?
- Any mature titles in recently-watched?
- Any new streaming apps installed?
Linked accounts
A smart TV often holds YouTube, Netflix, Prime, Hulu and more — each with its own login. Walk through each and set the kid profile as default, with PIN protection for switching.
