First-phone family contract
Read it together. Sign it together. Re-read it in six months.
Before you unwrap this phone, we agree…
- The phone is on loan. It belongs to the family. I can read texts, check apps, and see where you are.
- You come to me first. If anything weird, scary, or wrong happens online, you tell me. You are never in trouble for telling me.
- No phone in the bedroom overnight. It charges in the kitchen. No exceptions.
- No phone at meals. That goes for parents too.
- Passwords. I have the password for every app. That’s how loan works.
- Age-appropriate apps only. New apps require approval. No secret downloads.
- No nude photos. Not sent, not requested, not shared, no exceptions. If one gets sent, come to me.
- No meetings with strangers from online. Not in person. If someone invites you, tell me.
- No money sent to strangers. No gift cards, no crypto, no Venmo, not even “to hold.”
- Social media is allowed as agreed, with private accounts.
- Grades and chores first. Phone time is after homework.
- If you lose this phone by losing it, breaking it carelessly, or having it confiscated by a school, we discuss replacement responsibility.
- We review these rules every six months. Rules can loosen as trust grows.
