School-device questions
Take these to your next parent-teacher night.
For parent-teacher night
- What’s the device policy for my child’s grade — Chromebook, iPad, personal phone?
- What content filter is applied to the school device?
- Does the filter apply at home (off-campus use)?
- Do you use activity monitoring (Gaggle, GoGuardian, Lightspeed, Bark for Schools)?
- What does that monitoring flag for? Who receives the alert?
- When is the parent notified of a flag?
- Is AI-based flagging being used?
- Are search queries logged? For how long?
- What happens to the data when my child graduates?
- Can I see my child’s browsing / search history?
- How do you handle a device taken home that is lost or damaged?
- What if I want tighter filtering at home than at school — what’s the approved way?
- How are incidents (cyberbullying, sextortion, self-harm flags) handled by the school?
- What’s the protocol if a non-school platform (Snap, Discord) is used to bully one of your students?
For the district / board
- Where can I read the full acceptable-use policy?
- Where can I read the full data-retention / privacy policy for student records?
- Is student data shared with third parties for research or marketing?
